It's Alive!

It took a while to get here, but the Lonesome Train anthology has finally arrived!

My story in this anthology is called Momma Knows Best. It's a Southern Gothic tale about a young woman having difficulty accepting her mother's advice. Kids can be like that, you know. But when a photographer drops by to take pictures of the old train station where she's hanging out, things take a dark turn.

At the moment. it's only available in paperback on Lulu (check for coupons or promotional codes). If (when, I hope) that changes, I'll post an update on my My Works page.

I'll be giving away a couple of copies at the Shore Leave sci-fi convention in Hunt Valley, Maryland this year, but if you can't make it there, check it out on Lulu!

Beyond The Shroud

Beyond the Shroud, a mummy-inspired horror anthology containing thirteen (my lucky number) stories by Horrified Press, is now available on Lulu! At the present, it's only in paperback format—I'm hoping other formats will follow.

My story, A Matter of Personal Taste, is a reprint, although I did modify it a good bit before sending submitting to this anthology. I was just a child (writing-wise) when I sent it in to the Were-Traveler; they were kind enough to publish it and give my writing "career" a boost. My lack of experience at the time explains why I felt a rewrite was necessary. I did inform the anthologist for Beyond the Shroud (Cynthia Morrison) it was a reprint.

It was originally listed as being through the Horrified Press imprint Pilgrim Off-Fifth Press, but the cover only lists Horrified Press, not that it matters to me.

My story is about an archaeologist who makes a unique discovery with the help of a local. He shares the news with a colleague, but before they can begin their scientific analysis, events take a bizarre turn!

Anyway, it's out and available! I'll let you know if any other formats show up.

Publishing Update: No Good News

This is going to start just like several other posts I've made on this subject. I used copy and paste for most of this post. It ends about the same, too.

If you've read my previous blog post you know I've been waiting for some time for Fringeworks to publish the Dead Men's Tales anthology. It (should) include my story, Skarett's Treasure. Their last blog post hinted that it might be out by late September. I'll have to check my calendar, but I think September has already passed.

Now on to Horrified Press...

I submitted a story back in February 2015, to an anthology listed on the Horrified Press site. Never received any reply from the editor. So I posted a note at the bottom of their submissions page. Got a reply saying they'd contact the editor and let me know.

I finally received an answer.

Hey,
Apologies for the late reply, but we have been unable to contact this editor. If this project doesn’t move forward by November end then I will be putting out the call for those already accepted to re-forward their contracts and pieces directly to me, so that the book can be completed for an Xmas release. It wouldn’t be an ideal scenario, but I would like to see this book completed for all concerned.

As I've never received an acceptance (or rejection) letter, I can assume I won't be in the book. That's OK. At least I can move forward and submit elsewhere.

And I don't blame Mr. Rowark for this, either. If an editor disappears there's not to much more he can do other than what he has suggested. I can imagine he's not too pleased with the situation. And I hope there isn't some horrible reason for Mr. McLean's failure to communicate. I like horror in stories, not real life.

So, I still have the story and I can find another market for submission. That's what writers do.
