This week's writing challenge from Five Sentence Fiction ( Lillie McFerrin Writes ) is based upon the prompt "Midnight."
Midnight
It's funny what you think about when the adrenaline kicks in. I guess that's how the brain copes when you're out of breath, out of time, and out of luck. I was used to being the hunter, but this time I was the prey. Alone, on foot, I had only the eldritch glow of a full moon to light my way. All that kept running through my mind was that old Patsy Cline song:
I go out walking, after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just hoping you may be
Somewhere a-walking after midnight
Searching for me.
And I knew you were.

Oh very good, I was just beginning to get uneasy. Loved the 'eldritch moon'. I had to look it up though I'd heard it before. Nice to learn something. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou're quite welcome!
DeleteThe "eldritch" thing... I stole that from Lovecraft.
Very mysterious.
ReplyDeleteNicely done.
Cheers!

Thanks! Been a bit busy lately and haven't had much time to do the challenges. Now I have to see if I can get around to reading what everyone else posted!
DeleteDelicious! Lyrical (literally) and mysterious, would like more of this!
ReplyDeleteI do know a lot of old (and some new) songs that sometimes come to mind when writing. I'll see what I can do! The mysterious part can be harder, but being into horror, I'll try.
DeleteThanks for reading and commenting!
