This week's writing challenge from
Five Sentence Fiction

Grief

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie posts one word for inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.

"It's sad enough to bury a child, but if we're going to have a decent funeral I must insist on the family plot being properly maintained. I should think you would have the statuary cleaned as that horrid figure of a weeping woman on his wife's grave is simply covered with mildew. The child's father is the only survivor and I don't wish to make this any more depressing than it already is."
"I'm sorry, Madam, but I don't understand. We have no statuary like that in our cemetery."

That could easily be the start of - or at least part of - a much longer story.
