FSF Challenge - Shadows

Lillie McFerrin Writes
This week's writing challenge from
Five Sentence Fiction
Lillie McFerrin Writes ) is based upon the prompt:

 Shadows

Just a little bit Gothic...

The Darkness Within

"These shadows make for an eerie vision, and it disturbs me so," the young woman asserted to her new acquaintance while strolling along a moonlit lane. "I wish the moon would disappear and take these horrid apparitions with it. I do believe I would prefer the somber purity of darkness to these sinister forms."

"Once our path takes us through the heavy wood," her companion replied with a curious countenance, "you shall get your wish, and may decide then which you prefer. But remember, even when the shadows disappear, the darkness that dwells within them yet remains."

  1. Oh my! Enjoyed your rounded phrasing on this - the voices and the dialogue were pitch perfect. Eerie ending so well done.

A delight to read, KR. :))

    1. Thanks! It wasn't too long ago I re-read Northanger Abbey, so I'm certain that had an influence! That and the old horror movies I watched as a kid...

    1. A young woman (no doubt stereotypically attractive), alone with a new and unfamiliar companion, and a dark, foreboding wood lit only by fleeting glimmers of moonlight do seem to point toward trouble!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  3. Well that was nice and spooky. I'm very curious as to her companion's countenance and what he might be up to.

    1. It is my belief that he should not be trusted...
...which, of course, is what makes the story.

Or maybe he's just teasing her. We may never know!

      Thanks for reading!
